The New Balance 9060 Black/Castlerock is the one where the black is not solid: grey Castlerock tones run across the suede overlays and the midsole, so the layers of the bulky 99X shape stay readable from across a room instead of collapsing into one dark block. A mesh base keeps the upper breathing, and the suede panels laid over it add weight to the look rather than to the shoe. Dual-density ABZORB and SBS cushioning runs the length of the sole, so a long stretch of pavement never leaves the hardness a flat sole does. The grey accents also let the pair sit under lighter outerwear, where an all-black trainer would read as too heavy.
