It is not performance footwear in the traditional sense, nor an attempt to recreate a classic, but rather a rethinking of familiar forms within a modern context.

Design and shape

Visually, the New Balance 9060 is defined by its bold, sculptural sole and layered upper. The geometry is intentionally emphasized — lines and forms appear exaggerated, yet the proportions are carefully balanced so the silhouette never feels random or purely utilitarian.

The model references early-2000s aesthetics, a period when running shoes became more technical and visually complex. At the same time, the 9060 integrates easily into a contemporary urban wardrobe. It’s most often styled with straight or wider-leg trousers, denim, and simple jackets or knitwear.

Black versions of the 9060 are chosen for their neutrality and versatility — easy to style and requiring little additional thought. Brown and sand-toned colorways highlight materials and textures more clearly, giving the overall look a warmer, more understated character.

The sole is relatively wide, providing additional stability. For this reason, the 9060 is often chosen for long walks, city routes, and days that involve a lot of time on foot.

Despite its bulky appearance, the shoe doesn’t feel heavy when worn. The fit is well balanced: there’s enough room in the toe box, the padded tongue doesn’t put pressure on the instep, and the collar secures the foot comfortably. In most cases, true to size works well.

It’s worth noting that denser materials and the layered construction result in less breathability compared to lighter summer models. In cooler seasons, this tends to be an advantage rather than a drawback.
